Professor, Inaugural Chair in Dermatology at The University of Queensland, Australia
Professor H. Peter Soyer AO MD FACD FAHMS is the Inaugural Chair in Dermatology at The University of Queensland, a position he has held since 2007. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and served as Director of the Dermatology Research Centre at the Frazer Institute and he was Director of the Dermatology Department at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. His work has centred on technological innovation in dermatology, including the development and integration of artificial intelligence–based approaches to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
In 2018, his research focus on early detection of skin cancer and melanoma with emphasis on technological innovation and integration of AI into dermatology was awarded a $9.9M infrastructure grant by the Australian Cancer Research Foundation to establish and lead the Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis (ACEMID). Under his leadership ACEMID was rewarded the 2024 EUREKA prize of the Australian Museum for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research and just recently the 2025 Shaping Australia Award in the Problem Solver Category.
