Hunter Shain, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He earned his PhD in Cancer Biology from Stanford University and completed postdoctoral training at UCSF before joining the faculty. His research focuses on the earliest genomic, transcriptional, and immunologic events that drive skin cancer development, with an emphasis on cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and their precursor lesions. His lab integrates large-scale genomic profiling data to delineate how normal skin cells transform into skin cancer. Dr. Shain’s laboratory has been supported by several skin cancer research foundations, the United States Department of Defense, and the National Institutes of Health. He currently leads the Pre-cancer Atlas of Skin Cancer within the Human Tumor Atlas Network.
